Bashar al-Assad and Family Granted Asylum in Moscow
Former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his family arrived in Moscow on Sunday, where Russia has granted them asylum, Anadolu Agency reported citing the state news agency TASS. A Kremlin source cited humanitarian reasons for the asylum offer, emphasizing Russia’s support for a political resolution to the Syrian crisis and the resumption of UN-mediated talks.
This development follows a resurgence of clashes between Assad’s forces and anti-regime groups, particularly after opposition forces launched a rapid offensive, capturing key cities and ultimately the capital, Damascus, after 13 years of civil war.
In related news, the opposition Syrian National Army (SNA) liberated the district of Manbij from the US-backed PKK/YPG terrorist group as part of Operation Dawn of Freedom. The SNA’s success in Manbij, a strategic location, is seen as a significant step toward restoring sovereignty in Syria, with calls for continued liberation efforts from the Syrian Interim Government.
