Pakistan: Muharram procession held amid tight security to maintain peace

The first mourning procession of the mournful month of Muharram was held last Monday amid tight security in Peshawar, Pakistan.

Tribute was paid to the sacrifices of Imam Hussein and his 72 companions, peace be upon them, in Karbala. All the trade activities on the routes of mourning procession were closed while the city police provided tight security to the mourners. The residents also prepared drinks to provide for the Husseini mourners and devotees.

In order to maintain peace and security during Muharram, officials took all necessary arrangements in various bazaars and routes of the mourning processions, and further enhanced security at all entry and exit points.
