Combat-related deaths in Pakistan rose sharply in 2025, increasing by 73 percent compared with the previous year, according to a report by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, Arab News reported. The think tank said escalating militant violence led to heavy casualties among militants, security personnel and civilians.

PICSS recorded 3,387 conflict-related deaths in 2025, up from 1,950 in 2024. The toll included 2,115 militants, 664 members of the security forces, 580 civilians and 28 pro-government peace committee members. Militants accounted for nearly two-thirds of the deaths, marking the highest militant toll since 2015.

The report said fatalities among security forces rose by 26 percent, reaching the highest annual figure since 2011, while civilian deaths increased by 24 percent to their highest level in a decade. Militant attacks also climbed, with more than 1,060 incidents recorded, alongside a significant rise in suicide bombings.

PICSS noted growing use of drones in attacks and an increase in arrests of suspected militants. Violence remained concentrated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Pakistan continues to accuse militants of operating from Afghan territory, an allegation Kabul has consistently denied.
