Pakistan’s military said it killed seven militants linked to the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) during a security operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, amid rising tensions with Afghanistan, Khaama Press reported. According to the army, the militants were killed in a firefight in the Kolaji area of Dera Ismail Khan district during an operation targeting individuals accused of involvement in several previous attacks.

The military said security forces also sustained casualties, though no official figures were disclosed. The operation was described as part of ongoing efforts to counter militant activity in the region. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari praised the operation, reiterating the government’s commitment to combating militancy and maintaining internal security. The TTP has not issued a public response to the incident.

The operation comes as Islamabad continues to accuse Afghanistan’s Taliban authorities of allowing Pakistani militants to find shelter across the border. Kabul has not directly addressed the latest allegations, though Taliban officials have previously cautioned against unilateral military actions near the frontier.

Security analysts say recent incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa highlight growing strain between Pakistan and Afghanistan, underscoring the fragile security situation along the shared border and the risk of further escalation.
