Pakistani Students Protest Removal of Imam Hussein’s Name from University Prayer Hall
—————————–
Students from the Imamia Students Organization (ISO) in Pakistan held a peaceful protest after reports emerged that the name of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) had been removed from a university prayer hall. The demonstrators demanded a full investigation and legal action against those responsible, calling for measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
According to reports from the Shia Waves Agency and local Pakistani media, the incident occurred at Jamia Urdu University in Gulshan, Karachi, where students objected to what they described as a “disrespectful attempt” to erase the sacred name of Imam Hussein from the campus prayer space.
Protesters gathered peacefully, emphasizing the need to uphold respect for religious symbols and maintain the sanctity of places of worship within academic institutions. They urged university administrators to ensure accountability and to safeguard the cultural and spiritual integrity of the campus environment.
The ISO stated that the goal of the protest was to raise awareness and promote respect for religious values across all educational settings.
Academic and religious commentators warned that such incidents risk deepening divisions within student communities and called on university authorities to respond decisively to preserve unity and mutual respect on campus.
