NGOs Decry “Death of Human Rights” in India at UNHRC Session
——————————-
At the 60th session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, human rights non-governmental organizations (NGOs) exposed systematic human rights violations allegedly occurring in India.
As reported by Shia Waves Agency, citing Reuters, the reports focused particularly on the states of Tamil Nadu, Assam, and Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian government stands accused of repression, restricting religious and political freedoms, and disregarding the lives of protestors in these regions.
The rights groups called for the formation of an independent investigative committee, the suspension of restrictive laws, and greater protection for minorities in India. The Indian government, however, dismissed these reports, labeling them as “false and biased.”
