Pakistan Confirms New Polio Case, Total Reaches 30 Nationwide
…………….
Pakistan’s Health Ministry has confirmed a new polio case in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, bringing the country’s total to 30 infections this year, Khaama Press reported. The latest case involves a 12-month-old child from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where 19 cases have now been recorded in 2025. Symptoms were first detected on September 28.
Polio, a highly contagious viral disease that mainly affects children, can cause irreversible paralysis or death. Health authorities emphasized that vaccination remains the only reliable protection against the virus and urged parents to ensure their children receive full immunization doses.
Pakistan and Afghanistan remain the only two countries where the polio virus continues to circulate, despite extensive eradication efforts supported by international health organizations. Officials say misinformation and security issues in remote areas continue to hamper vaccination campaigns, underscoring the need for sustained public awareness and cross-border cooperation to eliminate the virus completely.
