Deadly Floods Displace 3.2 Million in Pakistan
………….
Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) announced Monday that catastrophic floods, ongoing since June 26, have necessitated the evacuation of approximately 3.2 million people across several provinces, including Punjab, Sindh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The Punjab province bore the brunt of the crisis, accounting for over 2.7 million of those displaced by heavy monsoon rains and torrents. The official toll has climbed to 1,006 fatalities and 1,063 injuries. The floods also caused immense infrastructural damage, destroying 12,569 homes and resulting in the loss of 6,509 livestock.
These figures underscore the severe humanitarian and economic consequences of what are reported to be some of the country’s most violent floods in recent years. Authorities are urgently appealing for increased local and international aid.
