World bank approves $47.9m grant to enhance Punjab primary education, enrolment

The World Bank has approved a $47.9 million grant to improve primary education in Punjab, Pakistan, Dawn E-Paper improved. The funding, provided by the Global Partnership for Education Fund, aims to expand early childhood education, strengthen support for teachers, and re-enroll out-of-school children at both the pre-primary and primary levels.

The project, which is part of the Punjab government’s broader education reform agenda, is expected to benefit approximately four million children, including 80,000 who are currently out of school and 140,000 with disabilities. Additionally, more than 100,000 teachers and school leaders will receive professional development. The project also plans to improve the education sector’s ability to respond to climate change and other emergencies.
