On Thursday, Pakistan’s Supreme Court granted bail to former Prime Minister Imran Khan in multiple cases connected to attacks on military installations in May 2023, Anadolu Agency reported.

A three-judge bench led by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi overturned a Lahore High Court decision that had denied Khan bail in eight cases related to the violence that year. The court ordered the release of the 72-year-old Khan, provided he is not wanted in any other cases. However, Khan will remain in custody due to a separate conviction in a corruption case.

The former cricketer and politician is facing numerous charges, including corruption and terrorism, which he has described as politically motivated. Several leaders and lawmakers from his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, including opposition figures in both parliamentary houses, have also recently been convicted in similar cases. The attacks on various military sites, including the army’s General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, occurred following Khan’s brief arrest on corruption charges in May 2023.
