Relentless monsoon rains continue to claim lives in Pakistan, where the death toll from floods that have swept through mountainous and residential areas since last Wednesday has risen to 32, including at least 16 children, according to local authorities and disaster management agencies.

The Disaster Management Agency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, in the country’s northwest, confirms that sudden floods and collapsing rooftops have killed 19 people — eight of them children — while injuring six others and destroying dozens of homes, six of which are completely leveled.

The Swat Valley has been the hardest hit in the province, with local media reporting entire families swept away along riverbanks. In Punjab province in the east, disaster officials report another 13 deaths since Wednesday, including eight children killed by collapsing roofs and walls, while adults have died in sudden river floods.

The National Meteorological Department warns that heavy rains and flood risks will persist through next Tuesday and urges residents to stay away from rivers and hazardous areas. This disaster comes amid repeated warnings about the severe impacts of climate change on Pakistan, one of the world’s most vulnerable countries.

In recent months, the country has faced severe storms and unusual cold spells, which have claimed dozens of lives. With a population of over 240 million, Pakistan continues to struggle with the rising frequency of climate disasters, a fragile infrastructure, and ongoing threats to lives and property.
