In an unprecedented escalation, India is carrying out mass deportations of Muslims to Bangladesh, triggering international outrage and warnings of an imminent humanitarian disaster. Hundreds of Muslim families, mainly in Assam, have been forcibly expelled at gunpoint, often at night, without trial or due process — in violation of India’s constitution and international law.

Since May, over 1,600 people have reportedly been deported under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nationalist government, which faces mounting accusations of targeting religious minorities.
