Heavy Rains, Thunderstorms Claim 5 Lives in Pakistan

At least five people died and 80 were injured as heavy rains, thunderstorms, and cloudbursts battered parts of Pakistan on Tuesday, Anadolu Agency reported. The fatalities occurred in Pakistan-administered Kashmir (AJK) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province, officials confirmed.
In AJK, three deaths—including two women—were reported due to cloudbursts, which also destroyed homes and a mosque in Muzaffarabad and Kotli. Sixteen others were injured in Kotli district. KP’s Swabi district saw a minor girl killed and 58 injured, while lightning struck a home in Shangla, claiming another life. Peshawar reported additional injuries.
The storms toppled utility poles, trees, and billboards, cutting power and damaging infrastructure. Islamabad faced similar disruptions as winds uprooted trees.
This marks the second major rain spell in a week, following last week’s deluge that killed 19 and injured over 90 in Punjab and KP. Authorities are assessing the damage as forecasts warn of continued extreme weather.
