Pakistan Seeks UN Security Council Session Over Rising Tensions with India

Pakistan has called for an urgent UN Security Council meeting amid escalating tensions with India following the April 22 attack in Indian-administered Kashmir that killed 26 people, Anadolu Agency reported. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar directed Pakistan’s UN envoy to convene the session, accusing India of “aggressive actions” and violating the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, the source added.

Islamabad plans to highlight India’s suspension of the water-sharing pact and alleged provocations, warning they threaten regional peace. Both nuclear-armed rivals have exchanged diplomatic blows, including visa cancellations and staff recalls. India blamed Pakistan for the Pahalgam attack, citing “cross-border links,” while Pakistan denied involvement and proposed a neutral investigation.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif discussed the crisis with Malaysia’s leader, emphasizing concerns over India’s “provocative” moves. Pakistan, currently a non-permanent Security Council member, seeks international intervention to de-escalate tensions.
