Taliban Attack Kills Four Pakistani Troops in Kurram District

At least four Pakistani paramilitary troops were killed in an attack by local Taliban fighters on a security checkpoint in Kurram district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, on Sunday morning, Arab News reported. A police official, speaking anonymously, reported that heavily armed militants launched the assault, resulting in seven additional injuries among security personnel.

The attack highlights the increasing violence in the region since the Afghan Taliban regained power in Kabul in August 2021. The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the most active militant group in northwestern Pakistan, frequently targets security forces.

Islamabad has accused the Taliban government in Kabul of harboring militants who conduct attacks across the border, a claim denied by Afghan authorities. This incident follows a recent attack in Bannu district, where suicide bombers killed 13 civilians and five soldiers. Last year marked the deadliest period for Pakistan in a decade, with over 1,600 fatalities attributed to rising militant violence, according to the Center for Research and Security Studies.
