Pakistan: PTI Requests More Time for Consultations Ahead of 3rd Round of Talks with Government to Ease Political Tensions

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has requested additional time to consult party founder Imran Khan regarding its final demands before the upcoming third round of negotiations with the government, scheduled for next week, Dawn reported yesterday.

This request follows a second round of talks held on January 2, 2025, aimed at easing political tensions.

During the previous meetings, the PTI outlined its key demands, including the release of political prisoners and the establishment of a judicial commission to investigate events from May 9, 2023, and November 26, 2024. NA Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq noted that discussions were conducted in a cordial atmosphere, with significant input from both sides.

The government has indicated its willingness to facilitate a meeting between PTI leaders and Imran Khan in Adiala Jail for further consultations. The PTI plans to present a definitive written charter of demands at the next meeting, emphasizing the necessity of Imran’s guidance in the negotiation process.
