Aerial Firing Injures 26 During New Year’s Celebrations in Karachi

Aerial firing during New Year’s celebrations in Karachi resulted in 26 injuries, with victims transported to various hospitals across the city. On December 31, Karachi Commissioner imposed Section 144 for 48 hours to curb such activities, which have historically led to injuries.

On New Year’s Day 2024, an infant girl died, and 32 others were injured, prompting the arrest of 75 suspects involved in celebratory gunfire. According to police and Edhi officials, the injuries were caused by stray bullets.

Victims included two 25-year-olds from Kumharwada, a 23-year-old from Denso Market, and others from various neighborhoods. Nine individuals were treated at Jinnah Hospital, including an 11-year-old boy and three teenagers. Abbasi Shaheed Hospital received the highest number of casualties, with victims ranging from 12 to 35 years old. Investigations into the incidents are ongoing as authorities seek to address the dangers of aerial gunfire during celebrations.
