Medical Supplies Dispatched to Kurram District Amid Ongoing Crisis

On Thursday, Pakistan’s health department sent medical supplies to Kurram district, where a sit-in protest highlighted the urgent need for humanitarian assistance, Dawn Newspaper reported. Participants are hopeful for the resumption of a jirga in Kohat, aimed at reopening roads closed for 80 days. Health Adviser Ihtesham Ali reported that medicines have been dispatched to District Headquarters Hospital in Parachinar, Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Sadda, and various basic health units.

Despite these efforts, Parachinar tehsil chairman Agha Muzammil Hussain claimed over 100 villages are facing severe shortages of medicines, gas, and food due to the road closures. He warned of possible resignations if the government fails to restore access and ensure safety. Hussain also alleged that 100 children have died from a lack of medical supplies, a claim the health adviser disputed, asserting that there is no shortage of medicines and urging media to verify such reports before publication.

Meanwhile the violence in the nation rages on. In separate incidents, Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) fighters killed 11 Pakistani security personnel in North Waziristan, adding to ongoing violence that includes a previous attack resulting in 16 deaths. Clashes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also resulted in a senior officer’s death, and killing of 13 TTP militants.
