Tribal Clashes in Pakistan Claim 11 Lives

At least 11 people were killed and eight injured, including women and children, in tribal clashes in northwestern Pakistan on Saturday, Arab News reported yesterday.

The violence erupted in Kurram district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, following a shooting incident between rival tribes that left two individuals critically injured. The exact cause of the shooting remains unclear.

Reports indicate that vehicles were targeted across various areas of the district, contributing to the rising casualty count. Senior official Javedullah Khan stated that efforts are underway to secure travel routes and restore normalcy, with injured individuals being transported to local hospitals.

Pir Haider Ali Shah, a former parliamentarian, noted that tribal elders have arrived in Kurram to mediate a peace agreement. He expressed concern over the recent violence, which hampers ongoing peace efforts. Last month, clashes over a land dispute resulted in the deaths of 25 individuals, highlighting long-standing tensions between armed Shiite and Sunni communities in the region.
