Two Bus Accidents in Pakistan Claim 36 Lives

At least 36 people lost their lives in two separate bus accidents in Pakistan over the weekend, highlighting the country’s ongoing road safety issues, Al Jazeera reported today. Twelve fatalities occurred on the Makran Coastal Highway in Balochistan, while 24 people were killed when a bus plunged into a ravine near Kahuta in Punjab.

The first accident involved Shia pilgrims returning from Iran, with 32 others injured, many critically. Rescuers reported that four individuals remained trapped in the wreckage. In the second incident, local officials initially reported seven injuries, but all 24 passengers were later confirmed dead, attributed to brake failure.

Road accidents are a frequent occurrence in Pakistan, with over 9,000 incidents annually resulting in more than 5,000 deaths, primarily due to poor infrastructure and reckless driving.
