Pakistan: Monsoon Mayhem Kills 26, Injures 17 Amidst Widespread Destruction
Severe monsoon rains have wreaked havoc across Pakistan, claiming the lives of 26 people and injuring 17 others. The provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab have been particularly hard hit, Dawn Online newspaper reported yesterday.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 24 fatalities, including six children, and 17 injuries were reported from July 29 to August 1. Over 150 homes were damaged, with 107 destroyed in Upper Chitral alone. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) is providing relief to affected families but warns of ongoing risks.
Punjab province, particularly Lahore, was inundated with a record-breaking 360mm of rainfall in just three hours on Thursday. The deluge resulted in two fatalities. The Punjab PDMA has issued flood warnings and urged residents to stay safe.
Both provinces are bracing for continued monsoon rains, with authorities working to mitigate the impact and provide assistance to affected communities.
