Yaum-i-Ashura Observed Peacefully in Pakistan Amid Heightened Security

On Wednesday, mourners across Pakistan took to the streets to observe Yaum-i-Ashura to commemorate the tragic martyrdom of Imam Hussain, peace be upon him, Dawn reported yesterday.

According to the source, President Asif Ali Zardari urged the nation to remain steadfast in the face of adversity, drawing inspiration from the sacrifices made at Karbala.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif echoed this sentiment, calling for unity, tolerance and perseverance in the face of internal and external challenges.

Extensive security measures were put in place, with over 59,000 police officers deployed across Sindh province alone. Traffic restrictions and bans on weapons and drones were enforced to ensure the peaceful conduct of processions and gatherings.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi lauded the role of law enforcement and religious scholars in maintaining harmony during this significant observance, which serves as a “torch for all humanity” according to the minister.
