Pakistan Defends Ban on X, Citing National Security

Pakistan’s government is defending its months-long ban on social media platform X, arguing it threatens national security, Anadolu Agency reported yesterday.

In a court response, the Interior Ministry says content targeting institutions necessitated the ban and doesn’t violate free speech rights, the source added.

The May ban followed protests over alleged election rigging, sparking criticism. Pakistan’s military has previously labeled critical social media campaigns as “digital terrorism.”
