Deadly Heatwave Grips Pakistan, Karachi Worst Hit

A scorching heatwave has swept across Pakistan, claiming dozens of lives and disrupting daily life, particularly in the country’s largest city, Karachi, Khaama Press reported today.

Health officials report at least 36 deaths in Karachi alone over the past three days, with thousands hospitalized for heatstroke and other heat-related illnesses.

Temperatures in Sindh province soared to a scorching 47 degrees Celsius (117 degrees Fahrenheit) on Tuesday, prompting authorities to urge residents to stay indoors and hydrated. Hospitals in Karachi saw a surge in patients, with over 1,500 seeking treatment on a single day.

Experts warn that climate change is fueling these extreme weather events. Rising temperatures and more frequent heatwaves threaten public health, strain infrastructure in dense urban areas, and disrupt economic activity.

Climate models predict even harsher consequences for South Asia in the future, highlighting the need for urgent action to mitigate climate change and build resilience.
