Pakistan: Arson Attack Targets Girls’ School in Former Taliban Stronghold
A group of armed assailants carried out an arson attack on a girls’ school in North Waziristan, a former stronghold of the Pakistani Taliban, abc News reported yesterday.
The overnight attack, which took place in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, resulted in significant damage, with the perpetrators using kerosene to set fire to the school’s furniture, computers, and books.
Authorities suspect the involvement of an individual who had a recent dispute with the school’s owner, though no one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
This incident comes on the heels of two other bombings targeting girls’ schools in the same region earlier this month, highlighting the continued threat to female education in the area, as the Taliban’s influence in neighboring Afghanistan has apparently emboldened their Pakistani counterparts.
