Pakistan: Attack on outpost near Afghan border leaves 5 soldiers, 5 militants dead
A militant attack on a Pakistani security outpost near the Afghanistan border has left 5 soldiers and 5 assailants dead, with another 6 soldiers injured, VOA reported today.
The attack occurred in the Tirah valley of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a former militant stronghold, the news agency noted, adding that the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the assault.
This comes a day after Pakistani forces killed 2 soldiers and 5 alleged TTP-linked terrorists in a separate counterterrorism operation.
Pakistan’s Interior Minister has renewed calls for the Taliban government in Afghanistan to take action against TTP leaders and fighters using Afghan soil to orchestrate cross-border attacks. The Taliban deny allowing their territory to be used for such activities, but skepticism remains over these claims.
