Escalating Violence Disrupts Life in Pakistan’s Tribal Regions
Residents of Pakistan’s tribal areas along the Afghan border are facing increasing disruption to their daily lives due to ongoing military operations and clashes between security forces and militants, VOA reported yesterday in an article citing local sources.
The Center for Research and Securities Studies (CRSS), an Islamabad-based think tank tracking terrorism in Pakistan, has said that terror-related fatalities surged 17% in the first quarter of 2024 compared with the corresponding period in 2023.
The report says 432 people were killed and 370 others were injured in the first three months in 245 attacks and military operations.
Major-General Ahmed Sharif stated security forces have conducted over 13,000 operations this year, but Pakistan’s special representative Asif Durrani noted a 60% rise in terrorist attacks since the Taliban’s 2021 takeover of Afghanistan.
