Deadly Militant Attacks Surge Across Pakistan

At least 70 people, including 31 security personnel, were killed in 77 militant attacks across Pakistan in April, Anadolu Agency cited a think tank report yesterday.

The majority of the attacks, 73%, occurred in the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the source added.

“During the last four months, the South Asian country experienced a total of 323 militant attacks, killing 324 people and wounding 387 others,” the report stated.

On Friday, coinciding the World Press Freedom Day, a local journalist and the president of Khuzdar Press Club were among three people killed in a remote-controlled blast in Balochistan.

Pakistan has seen a surge in terror attacks since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan, with Islamabad accusing Kabul of not doing enough to curb cross-border militancy, a claim Afghanistan has denied.
