Lebanon’s Health System Near Collapse as Fighting Intensifies in South
——————————–
Lebanon’s healthcare system is facing near collapse amid escalating war in the country’s south, as renewed Israeli military operations expand and humanitarian conditions rapidly deteriorate.
Recent reports from the World Health Organization indicate that at least 4 hospitals and more than 50 primary healthcare centers have been forced to close, with medical services severely disrupted across southern Lebanon. Attacks on healthcare facilities have also resulted in the deaths of dozens of medical workers, including nine paramedics killed in a single day, further straining an already overwhelmed system.
The crisis has deepened as Israeli operations have expanded into southern Lebanon, with ground advances and intensified airstrikes reported across Southern regions, contributing to widespread destruction of infrastructure and displacement.
According to the UNICEF, the human toll on civilians—especially children—has been severe. At least 121 children have been killed and 399 injured, while more than 370,000 children have been displaced in recent weeks.
Humanitarian agencies warn that hundreds of thousands of people have been uprooted, with essential services including hospitals, water systems, and schools either damaged or no longer functioning. The destruction of infrastructure and continued hostilities have also hindered aid delivery to affected areas.
