FreeMuslim Condemns Alleged Use of Banned Weapons in Southern Lebanon
——————————–
The Global Nonviolence Organization (FreeMuslim) has strongly condemned reports alleging the use of white phosphorus munitions in Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon, calling for an urgent international investigation.
In a statement, the organization said that targeting populated areas with incendiary weapons constitutes a serious violation of international law and poses a direct threat to civilians. It warned that such actions go beyond military misconduct and could amount to war crimes due to their long-term physical and environmental consequences.
The group noted that the alleged use of such weapons contradicts several international agreements, including Protocol III of the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons, which prohibits the use of incendiary weapons against civilian populations. It also referenced broader principles of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, which ban indiscriminate attacks and require a clear distinction between military and civilian targets.
The organization called for an immediate international investigation under the supervision of the United Nations and the United Nations Human Rights Council to document the alleged violations and hold those responsible accountable.
It also urged the international community to adopt a firm stance against what it described as serious violations and called for a halt to the supply of weapons that could be used against civilians. The group warned that continued international silence could worsen the humanitarian situation and threaten regional stability.
The statement concluded by emphasizing that protecting civilians and upholding human dignity must remain a priority, cautioning that failure to address such incidents could lead to further violations and escalation.
