Israeli Airstrike Kills Three Journalists in Southern Lebanon

An Israeli airstrike early on Friday, in Hasbaiyya, southern Lebanon, has resulted in the deaths of three journalists: Al Mayadeen cameraman Ghassan Najjar, engineer Mohamed Reda, and Al-Manar TV camera operator Wissam Qassim, Al Jazeera reported yesterday.

The attack, which occurred around 4 AM local time, targeted a compound where the journalists were sleeping, with no prior warning issued by the Israeli military.

Local reports indicate that the area was relatively calm and under no evacuation orders at the time. Lebanon’s Information Minister Ziad Makary condemned the strike as a “war crime,” asserting that it was a deliberate act against journalists.

This incident follows a recent Israeli strike on an Al Mayadeen office in Beirut, which had already raised concerns about the safety of media personnel in the region. The ongoing conflict has seen a troubling trend of violence against journalists, with many facing unprecedented dangers while covering the situation in Lebanon and Gaza.
