Kashmiri Daily Wage Workers Protest for Fair Pay and Job Security

Thousands of daily wage workers in Srinagar, the capital of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, held a peaceful protest demanding fair wages, job security, and access to employment benefits.
According to the Shia Waves Agency, citing Kashmir News Agency, the demonstration was organized with the support of several labor unions. Protesters called on the government to enforce the revised minimum wage law and to regularize their employment status, ensuring long-term stability and protection for workers.
Carrying placards reading “We demand justice,” participants urged authorities to address long-standing grievances over delayed payments, lack of benefits, and insecure working conditions that have left thousands of workers vulnerable.
Union representatives said the protest aimed to push for concrete policy action and fair treatment for Kashmir’s daily wage laborers, who form a critical part of the region’s workforce but remain excluded from most formal labor protections.
