Kashmiri Students Face Violence in Northern India

Kashmiri students in northern India are under siege following a militant attack in Pahalgam, with at least eight violent incidents reported across Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, Muslim Mirror reported. The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) condemned the attacks as a “targeted hate campaign.”
In Himachal Pradesh, right-wing mobs stormed Arni University hostels, calling students “terrorists” and forcing them to flee. In Uttarakhand, the Hindu Raksha Dal issued written threats demanding Kashmiri Muslim students vacate by April 25 or face forced removal. Twenty terrified students from Dehradun’s BFIT College attempted to escape via Jolly Grant Airport amid anti-Muslim slogans.
Punjab saw a nighttime hostel attack at Universal Group of Institutions, leaving one student severely injured. JKSA accused local authorities of inaction, citing delayed police response and unchecked mob violence.
Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi pledged to escalate the issue nationally, while JKSA urged Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister to intervene. The violence highlights escalating communal tensions and institutional failures in protecting minority students.
