UN Reaffirms Stance on Jammu and Kashmir Amid Ongoing Protests

The United Nations has reaffirmed its position on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, emphasizing that any resolution must align with the UN Charter and relevant Security Council resolutions while respecting human rights, Kashmir Media Service reported yesterday.

Farhan Aziz Haq, deputy spokesperson for Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, reiterated this stance during a recent briefing, responding to concerns about perceived inaction regarding human rights violations since the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019.

In related developments, local opposition parties staged a sit-in protest in Kathua, demanding the restoration of statehood and special status for Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir. Organized under the All Parties United Morcha, the protesters called for a unified effort among all communities—Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, and tribal groups—to reclaim rights lost due to amendments following the 2019 changes.
