Two Militants Killed in Kashmir Firefight

Two suspected militants were shot dead in a firefight with Indian soldiers in Kashmir, Arab News reported today.

The incident occurred on Thursday as the militants attempted to cross the de facto border from Pakistan into the region. Troops spotted the individuals moving through dense foliage and challenged them, leading to an intense exchange of gunfire.

Kashmir, particularly the southern Jammu region, has experienced a surge in violence recently, with five Indian security personnel killed in a separate encounter on Monday.

Last month, a gunman targeted a bus carrying Hindu pilgrims, resulting in nine fatalities and numerous injuries. The region has been a flashpoint since the 1947 partition of India and Pakistan, with ongoing insurgencies claiming tens of thousands of lives amid accusations of militancy and espionage from both nations.
