Militant Killed, 7 Security Personnel Wounded in Kashmir Clashes

In the latest violence in Indian-administered Kashmir, a suspected militant was killed and seven security personnel were wounded in separate clashes, Arab News reported today.

The first incident occurred late Tuesday night in a border village near Pakistan, where security forces engaged a suspected infiltrator in a gunfight, resulting in his death. Hours later, suspected rebels attacked an army checkpoint in the Doda area, leaving six soldiers and a police officer injured.

The incidents followed an attack on a bus of Indian pilgrims last week that left nine dead. Security forces have launched a manhunt in the region, which has been the site of a violent insurgency since 1989, with thousands killed in the conflict between India and Pakistan over the disputed territory of Kashmir.
