Kashmir Constituency Records Highest Voter Turnout in 34 Years

The northern Baramulla constituency in Indian-administered Kashmir witnessed a record voter turnout of 54.57% in the ongoing parliamentary elections, Anadolu Agency reported today.

This marks the highest turnout in the region over the past 34 years, defying the historical trend of low voter participation due to boycott calls, the source added.

The election is being seen as a referendum on the Indian government’s 2019 decision to revoke the region’s political autonomy. Voting has also been held in other constituencies, with Ladakh recording an even higher turnout of 61%.
