Iraq announces its readiness to open land ports for Iranian pilgrims to cross

The Iraqi Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities announced its country’s readiness to open some land ports for Iranian pilgrims to cross.

A statement from the ministry stated, “The Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, Hassan Nazim, discussed with the head of the Iranian Hajj and Ziyarat Organization, Sadiq Hosseini, during his official visit to Iran, to provide the necessary facilities for Iranian pilgrims to enter the holy shrines in Iraq,” indicating that the minister expressed Iraq’s readiness to provide the necessary facilities for Iranian pilgrims after the restrictions of the Corona pandemic ended and social, cultural and religious activities returned to normal.

He added that the meeting dealt with seeking to sign a memorandum of understanding in the field of grouping Iranian pilgrims to religious shrines in Iraq, as well as the facilities provided by the Iranian side to Iraqi pilgrims.

According to the statement, the minister confirmed that Iraq is ready to open some land border crossings between the two countries to allow pilgrims to visit the holy shrines.
