Media sources have reported that Egyptian authorities detained a number of people, including Iraqi Hussaini reciter Sayyid Mushtaq Al-Araji, during Ashura commemorations in the Sayyida Zaynab district of Cairo.

According to the sources, approximately 50 individuals of various nationalities—including Iraqis, Lebanese, and Egyptians—were arrested while participating in Ashura mourning gatherings in the area. Among those detained was Al-Araji, a well-known Iraqi Hussaini reciter.

The sources said the arrests were linked to the organization of Ashura commemorative ceremonies. Al-Araji was reportedly taken into custody while attending a mourning gathering in the Sayyida Zaynab district, where he had been invited to recite during the occasion.

Egyptian authorities have not yet issued an official statement explaining the circumstances of the arrests or the charges, if any, against those detained. No official information has been released regarding the legal procedures being taken or the expected timing of their release.

The reported detentions have drawn attention from religious and media circles, with calls for Egyptian authorities to clarify the circumstances of the incident and provide information on the legal status of those in custody.
