The U.S. military announced Sunday that it recently dismantled 15 weapons storage sites belonging to the militant group Daesh in southern Syria, Arab News reported. According to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), its forces, working with Syrian partners, targeted and obliterated the facilities across the Rif Damashq province via airstrikes and controlled explosions conducted between November 24 and November 27.

The operation resulted in the destruction of more than 130 mortars and rockets, along with assault rifles, machine guns, anti-tank mines and materials used for constructing improvised explosive devices. Although Daesh was largely defeated by a U.S.-led coalition years ago, the group has gradually reconstituted cells in Syria and Iraq that pose renewed security challenges.

The announcement comes shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump discussed Syria’s future with Syrian President Ahmed Al‑Sharaa on November 10, during which Washington extended a 180-day suspension of enforcement of the so-called Caesar sanctions. While the temporary hold remains in place, full removal of those restrictions depends on Congressional action.
