The Syrian Minister of Transport and the head of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Damascus met to discuss strengthening cooperation to ensure the safe and easy return of Syrian refugees.
According to Middle East News, Syrian Minister Yarob Bader described the post-liberation situation in Syria as promising. He emphasized the necessity of providing comprehensive support for returning refugees, including organizing transportation and providing financial assistance.
Gonzalo Vargas Llosa, head of the UNHCR office in Damascus, stated that the cooperation between the Syrian government and the UNHCR demonstrates a mutual commitment to the voluntary return of refugees.
To date, one million external refugees and over 1.8 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) have returned to their homes in the country. This number is projected to increase further by 2026.
