UNESCO Conference in Iraq Focuses on Peacebuilding, Genocide Prevention, and Interfaith Dialogue

The University of Baghdad, under the patronage of Iraq’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, hosted an international conference for UNESCO Chairs in Iraq under the theme “Building a Culture of Peace, Preventing Genocide, and Promoting Interfaith Dialogue.”

The event brought together researchers, academics, and diplomats from Iraq and abroad to discuss key issues including genocide prevention, peace education, health education, and interreligious dialogue.

Participants highlighted the need to develop genocide studies in Iraq to understand the roots of such crimes and prevent their recurrence. The conference also emphasized integrating peace and coexistence values into educational curricula and strengthening cooperation between Iraqi and international UNESCO Chairs.

Experts discussed strategies to counter violent extremism, enhance human rights protection, and promote peaceful coexistence among Iraq’s diverse communities. The event concluded with calls for continued academic collaboration to foster a more tolerant and peaceful Iraqi society.
