Hujjat-ul-Islam Syed Ahmed Iqbal Rizvi, Vice President of the Pakistan Muslim Unity Council, has strongly condemned the filing of baseless cases against participants in Muharram mourning ceremonies, Abna News Agency reported. In a statement issued Monday, Rizvi called for the immediate cancellation of these cases and an end to the harassment of mourners.
Rizvi emphasized that mourning for the martyrs of Karbala is a vital religious practice for millions of Muslims and should not face political or sectarian interference. He highlighted that in parts of Punjab and Sindh, false FIRs have been registered against innocent participants.
He accused Takfiri and extremist groups of instigating authorities to take such actions through sectarian influence. Rizvi described these moves as violations of religious freedom and constitutional rights, urging government intervention.
Rizvi called on law enforcement and government agencies to protect religious freedoms and prevent the recurrence of such unjust actions against peaceful mourners.
