Egypt releases 1,056 prisoners under presidential pardon
————————–
Egypt’s Interior Ministry announced on Wednesday that 1,056 prisoners have been freed under a presidential pardon, Anadolu Agency reported.

The ministry explained that this action is part of implementing President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s decision to pardon the remaining sentences of certain convicted individuals who meet the amnesty conditions, in celebration of the anniversary of the July 23, 1952 revolution that ended the monarchy.

Committees were established nationwide to review inmates’ files and determine eligibility for release under the pardon. These committees identified 1,056 inmates qualified for early release, though no further details about the eligibility criteria were provided. The ministry did not reveal the total prison population in Egypt. Presidential pardons for inmates are granted periodically.
