Taliban calls for implementation of Sharia law in Afghanistan

In the wake of the deteriorating situation of women and minorities in Afghanistan, Taliban called on last Thursday for the implementation of Sharia law.

Hibatullah Akhunzada, Taliban’s leader, held a gathering with the provincial governors in Kandahar where he emphasized the need to solve every problem through Sharia and not laws made by people, Khaama press reported.

He further said that all women’s and minorities’ rights must be based on Sharia law.

It is worth mentioning that since Taliban took control of Afghanistan last August, they constantly escalated their atrocities against women and minorities of their humanitarian rights.

Earlier, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) released a report that highlighted the eroding human rights situation in Afghanistan over the 10 months since the Taliban takeover.

The report detailed UNAMA’s findings with regards to the protection of civilians, extrajudicial killings, torture and ill-treatment, arbitrary arrests and detentions.
