The theft of the Holy Quran attributed to Imam Hassan Al-Mujtaba, peace be upon him, from the Afghan National Archives

Local media sources in Afghanistan revealed the theft of a manuscript copy of the Holy Quran attributed to Imam Hassan Al-Mujtaba, peace be upon him, from the National Archives.

“The Afghan National Archives is the most important center for preserving ancient Afghan documents and manuscripts in Kabul, which has been repeatedly looted and stolen in recent decades due to war and insecurity,” said Quranic researcher and translator Murtadha Kariminya.

Kariminya added that “a copy of the Holy Quran in Kufic script attributed to Imam Hassan Al-Mujtaba, peace be upon him, which has been kept in the Kabul Museum since 1335 AD, and then transferred to the National Archives of Afghanistan, was stolen at an unknown time between 2020 and 2022.”

He called on the media in Afghanistan and other countries to find a way to return this Islamic heritage to its original place.
