Explosion rocks large Shia mosque in Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan
Afghan media reported that an explosion occurred today, Thursday, in a large Shia mosque in the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif.
Tolo News confirmed that the explosion targeted the ‘Seh Dokan mosque’, which is located in one of the popular areas inhabited by the Shia Hazara sect in the fourth largest city in Afghanistan.
The source quoted Ghawth al-Din Anuri, head of the Abu Ali Sina Balkhi Hospital in Mazar-i-Sharif, as confirming that a number of wounded had been transferred to the hospital after the explosion, adding that the outcome was not yet clear.
The Herat Times indicated on its Telegram channel that the ‘Seh Dokan mosque’ is one of the largest and oldest mosques in Afghanistan.
