Amnesty International Expresses Grave Concern Over New Wave of Arrests in Western Afghanistan
——————————————-
A new wave of arrests targeting women and girls in Herat province over alleged violations of the Taliban’s dress code has once again raised serious concern among human rights organizations.
The move reflects the continued implementation of strict Taliban policies and the systematic suppression of women, gradually excluding them from public and social life in Afghanistan.
According to Kabul-based newspaper Hasht-e Subh, Amnesty International’s South Asia regional office issued a statement describing the arrests as another reminder of the ongoing repression of women’s fundamental rights.
The international rights organization stressed women’s right to choose their clothing, move freely, and participate in society without fear. It called for an immediate end to coercive and intimidating measures against Afghan women.
