Ten Afghan Migrants Killed by Iranian Border Guards Near Farah
…………..

At least ten Afghan migrants were shot dead by Iranian border guards while attempting to cross into Iran near Farah province, Khaama Press reported. Taliban officials said the incident occurred near the Sheikh Abu Nasr Farahi crossing, and two additional migrants from the group remain missing.

Taliban police spokesman Mohammad Naseem Badri confirmed that the victims were residents of Farah province trying to enter Iran illegally, but he did not provide specific details regarding the timing of the shooting. The incident is part of a pattern of deadly border clashes involving Afghan migrants along Iran’s eastern frontier.

Human rights groups note that most victims are undocumented workers fleeing poverty and unemployment in Afghanistan. Previous incidents include a 2022 shooting in Sistan-Baluchestan, Iran, and a 2020 case in Herat province where Iranian forces allegedly tortured migrants, resulting in multiple deaths.

Iranian authorities maintain that such actions are part of measures to curb illegal crossings, drug smuggling, and security threats. The Taliban government has not stated whether it will lodge an official complaint. Humanitarian organizations warn that worsening economic conditions in Afghanistan and increasing deportations from neighboring countries are pushing more Afghans to take dangerous routes into Iran, heightening the risk of further casualties.
