New Taliban Restriction Targets Women’s Education and Communication

New Taliban Restriction Targets Women’s Education and Communication
——————-
Afghan media have reported that some officials from the Taliban’s Ministry of Hajj and Religious Affairs have urged families during Friday sermons to confiscate the smartphones of women and girls.

According to Al Jazeera, Taliban clerics described women’s use of mobile phones as a source of “moral corruption” within families and instructed men to prevent it.

Women’s rights activists and citizens have condemned the directive, calling it discriminatory and a further restriction on women’s education and communication. They have demanded an immediate end to such policies.

Experts warn that these measures not only limit women’s access to information and education but also have broader negative social and economic consequences for Afghan families and society. They argue that such restrictions could seriously undermine sustainable development and women’s participation in social and educational life in Afghanistan.
